Director of Street Wise
Tonia’s background has been in administration and business hospitality but in the fall of 2009 she took on a volunteer role planning and serving a weekly hot meal for 150 homeless and street people. Eventually the needs of this ministry meant the creation of a new 501c3 corporation and Street Wise was born. In her role as Director, she has coordinated numerous volunteers and worked closely with several area leaders from Union Gospel Mission, City Gate, Catholic Charities, Fairchild Air Force Base, and many city and government agencies.
In 2014 Street Wise shifted its ministry focus from a general weekly community meal to partnering with The Spokane Municipal Community Court to supply a meal for offenders who are given community service and who are then connected with charitable agencies to get direct help to change their life circumstances. She remains an active leader in this program with the court and many other agencies. When First Covenant Church sold its downtown building, changed its name to The Gathering House and relocated to the Garland Business District, Street Wise was contracted by the church to run the job training coffee shop within the new building. Tonia uses her administrative skills and hospitality gifts to train and develop people who need a second chance or a restart in life. She loves how God has directed her life into this new opportunity to bring hope and change to others.
